CNES JC2 Poster

Anticipating flood-induced morphological damage from high-resolution topography

This page accompanies my CNES JC2 poster on anticipating flood-induced morphological damage from high-resolution topography.

It is so far a placeholder, I will fill it in the coming days.

The question

During extreme floods, erosion and sediment transport can cause much of the damage. How can repeated, high-resolution topography help identify where those changes are most likely to occur?

The approach

The project combines Digital Surface Models derived from Pléiades Neo and CO3D imagery with efficient hydrodynamic simulations. It will quantify hydraulic and morphological indicators across flood-event time series, beginning with landscapes affected by the Kaikōura earthquake and subsequent floods.

Why it matters

The aim is to identify topographic areas susceptible to flood-related morphological damage and improve our understanding of how pre-existing topography controls fluvial response from local to regional scales.
